Everything You Need To Know About Court Days 2018

It's Here! It's Here! THIS Saturday, from 3pm - 9pm in Downtown Rocky Mount! Franklin County Court Days takes place right in the street by the Farmer's Market, where we pay tribute to historic "Court Days" from times long past, where court would be heard, and market would be held... and neighbors near and far came in to town to catch up, celebrate life, and come together to make music and memories...

A Tradition Continues   It wouldn't be a special tribute to a special day in time without a street closing, so come on down towards the Farmer's Market to find your regular favorite vendors as well as some great new specialty ones to shop and view all different kinds of crafts, and foods and produce!

The Kid's Zone Expands!   Every parent knows that you can't have much fun unless your kids are having fun! Thanks to a specific donation from the Lions Club this year, we have expanded our Kid's Zone with some extra inflatables for extra fun! We will have the famous inflatable Bouncing Cow, as well as a huge obstacle course and some other great fun! The Franklin County Parks and Rec will be working their magic with games and prizes with their ever-famous carnival theme as well, and the National Guard will be coming to set up a rock climbing wall for fun! Let them get their faces painted, all FREE by Jennifer Rose Art, from 3:30pm-5:30pm!   The TNT team will be right nearby with balloons, unlimited cornhole, and a misting station with freezie pops to give away to help you beat the heat! Library Fun For All!   Did you get the email from the Library?:   Rocky Mount’s annual Court Days festival hearkens back to the 1800s when citizens gathered to buy and sell goods, socialize, conduct legal transactions and hear court cases. During the Court Days celebration on June 9, the library’s Main Branch will become a whodunit scene when a beloved book vanishes from its collection, launching an investigation and trial. The book, More Than Anything Else, is about Booker T. Washington’s quest to learn to read and write. “The Case of the Missing Book: A Mock Trial” will feature a dramatic skit, storytelling, singing, banjo playing and craft making. With three showings on the hour from 2-5PM, our family friendly mock trials will star members of our community!   Kicking off the mock trials will be a 1PM concert by the Youth String Ensemble of the Blue Ridge Performing Arts Academy. Comprised of students from Franklin County High School, the ensemble will perform short works of classical music. The library’s Court Days events are free. No reservations needed.

What kind of event would this be without music? The street is going to shut down that afternoon to give you room to walk the streets to visit with family and friends... and to set up a stage in the middle of Route 40!!! Bring a lawn chair or two, or your dancing shoes, to enjoy some amazing bands we have lined up all day long!   If it rains, do not worry! The Harvester has promised us that we can move the party to their Landing Pad in the downstairs of the Harvester, so plan on coming for a great day after all, rain or shine! Of course we had to add our old-fashioned contests that never seem to go out of style! Head down to the Farmer's Market to participate or cheer in the Pie Eating, Watermelon and Hot Dog Eating Contests! We will even have flat-footing competitions! The fun never stops when you are with the people you love the most! We know that sometimes the oldies really are the goodies!
